America to lose one-third of its fresh produce when California runs out of water

(NaturalNews) As Michael Snyder points out in a timely article at The Economic Collapse Blog, California is rapidly reverting back to the desert it was once.

Awareness of this is only now beginning to spread, but almost no one truly grasps the implications of what losing California's Central Valley agricultural output means to grocery shoppers.

Almost no one realizes, for example, that one-third of all the produce grown in the United States comes out of California's Central Valley. As the NYT explains:

Unlike the Midwest, which concentrates (devastatingly) on corn and soybeans, more than 230 crops are grown in the valley... melons, lettuce, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, chard, collards, prickly pears, almonds, pistachios, grapes and more tomatoes than anyone could conceive of in one place. (The valley is the largest supplier of canned tomatoes in the world too.)

That same article also mentions that 85% of the carrots consumed by Americans are grown in the valley. As Michael Snyder mentions in this article, California also produces:

99 percent of the artichokes
89 percent of cauliflower
94 percent of broccoli
95 percent of celery
90 percent of the leaf lettuce
83 percent of Romaine lettuce
83 percent of fresh spinach
90 percent of avocados
84 percent of peaches
88 percent of fresh strawberries
97 percent of fresh plums

Losing the ability to produce crops in the Central Valley means food prices will skyrocket across America: a pound of organic strawberries might cost $25, a single avocado might run you $10, and a head of organic romaine lettuce might set you back $12 or more.

This would place an enormous additional financial burden on the state at exactly the same time its agricultural exports are plummeting.

No matter how it plays out in California, fresh produce is about to get a whole lot more expensive across America. Because of this, interest in home food production is set to explode.

The economics just make sense: Even if fresh produce doubles in price at the grocery store, your cost to produce the same fresh produce at home doesn't go up at all. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists says Earth is now closer to human-caused doomsday than it has been in more than 30 years because of global warming and nuclear weaponry. But other experts say that’s much too gloomy.

The US advocacy group founded by the creators of the atomic bomb moved their famed “Doomsday Clock” ahead two minutes on Thursday. It said the world is now three minutes from a catastrophic midnight, instead of five minutes.

Iran has built a 27-meter-long missile, capable of delivering a warhead “far beyond Europe,” and placed it on a launch pad at a site close to Tehran, an Israeli television report said Wednesday, showing what it said were the first satellite images of the missile ever seen in the West.

It stressed that the missile could be used to launch spacecraft or satellites, but also to carry warheads.

The Channel 2 news report showed satellite imagery documenting what it said was Iran’s “very rapid progress” on long-range missile manufacture.

It showed one photograph of a site near Tehran, which it said the West had known about for two years, where Iran was working on engines for its long-range missiles.

It then showed a satellite photograph of a second site, nearby, which featured a launch pad, with the 27-meter missile on it — an Iranian missile “never seen before” by the West.

The missile is capable of taking a manned spacecraft or satellite into space, the TV report said.

It is also capable of carrying a conventional or non-conventional warhead “far beyond Europe,” the report added.

SCORES of giant asteroids are on course to hurtle close to Earth before the end of February, according to latest NASA space data.

Some are more than 1km wide and threaten devastating consequences if they were to strike our planet.
Of almost 70 asteroids on the radar most are around 100 metres wide, the size of a double decker bus, and would be capable of causing significant damage.
Experts warn if one of these monsters, some of which travel at up to 70,000 miles an hour, were to hit Earth it could “alter life as we know it”.
Plumes of debris thrown into the atmosphere would change the climate making the planet inhabitable for all life including humans.
An impact would still be catastrophic destroying cities and knocking out transport and communication networks.
According to NASA’s Near Earth Object Programme, there are 68 ‘close approaches’ forecast before the end of next month
The next, due on January 3, is the 490-metre wide 2005 YQ96 asteroid  currently hurtling through space at more than 30,000 miles per hour.
The biggest to skim the planet will be the mile-wide 2007 EJ asteroid due to throttle past on January 12th at 34,500 miles per hour.
Experts say although it is unlikely any of these will hit the Earth, there is always a chance they may veer off course or explode showering the planet with debris.
Bill Napier, professor of astronomy at the University of Buckinghamshire, said: “If you are talking about a real major impact you are looking at one every few centuries, these are the real show stoppers and in history have sometimes been described as fire from the heavens.
“However the smaller collisions happen more frequently, asteroids of 2km (1.2 miles) can cause a global catastrophe which would exterminate around two thirds of the human race, mainly due to the heat produced.
“There is also the hazard brought by comets, and these occur on much shorter timescales.
“It the Earth passes through the tail of a comet it will generate a massive plume of smoke, and this could be a civilization-stopper.”

The warnings come after scientists from around the world converged at the end of last year  to raise the alarm that there are around one million undetected asteroids currently flying through space.
They said without better technology and means of deflection one could hit the Earth and trigger a disaster similar to the collision which killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
Launching Asteroid Day, designated the 30th of June, co-founder of the initiative Grigorij Richters said: “There are thousands of asteroids that we know nothing about, we take this threat very seriously.
“It just takes one asteroid to completely destroy life, not just humanity, but all species.
“Asteroid Day is all about raising awareness, understanding there’s a threat and dealing with it.
Scientists reckon of all the asteroids blasting through space and capable of wiping out our planet they are aware of just one per cent of them.
Space expert Bill Nye, who has backed the project, said if the Tunguska asteroid which hit Siberia on June 30, 1908 had arrived just hours later it would have “changed the path of civilisation”.
He said: “If the event had taken place 6.5 hours later Berlin would have been in the object’s path and that would have changed the path of civilisation.
“Our challenge is to find these things but it is looking like a piece of charcoal in the dark.
“We have technology to deflect asteroids using lasers, this is the real deal, perhaps the reason we haven’t heard from other civilisations in space is because they didn’t pass the asteroid test.
“Dinosaurs were almost certainly killed off by an asteroid.”
NASA said it is aware of 1,552 “potentially hazardous” asteroids (PHAs) in outer space which show an orbit dangerously close to swiping Earth.
A spokesman said: “Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are currently defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid's potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth.
“This ‘potential’ to make close Earth approaches does not mean a PHA will impact the Earth.
“It only means there is a possibility for such a threat.
“By monitoring these PHAs and updating their orbits as new observations become available, we can better predict the close-approach statistics and thus their Earth-impact threat.”

This Is How Much Russians Hate America…

In Russia, shopping malls are putting out American flag doormats for people to wipe their feet on, and there are stores that are selling toilet paper with the American flag imprinted on it.  Surveys show that Russian attitudes toward the U.S. are now even worse than they were during the end of the Cold War, and ordinary Russians are blaming America for everything from the overthrow of the Ukrainian government to the collapse of the ruble.  The Russian government has just authorized a new military doctrine which identifies the United States as a top threat, and commentators on Russian television are using extremely strong language to condemn the United States.  In fact, one of the most prominent Russian commentators has referred to the United States as “the kingdom of the Antichrist“.  To the Russians, a new Cold War has erupted, and they very clearly view the United States as enemy number one.

But in the U.S., things are completely different.  Most Americans feel absolutely no animosity toward Russians or their government.  And most Americans do not consider Russia to be a “threat” whatsoever.  In this country, “the Cold War” is a relic from the past, and our relationship with Russia is very low on the list of political issues.  Most people seem to feel that the current tension between the U.S. and Russia is a temporary thing that will fade away eventually.  Nobody is making Russian flag doormats or selling toilet paper with Russian flags on it.

So most Americans have a really hard time grasping what is going on inside Russia right now.  Even if they have heard about how much Russians hate us, they don’t really understand how this could be possible.

And most Americans have no idea that the Russians even have a special derogatory word for us now.  The following is an excerpt from a recent New York Observer article…

If you talk to a Russian about the international political situation, sooner or later you will be informed that there is a country in North America that you never heard of. Its name is ‘Pindosia,’ ‘Pindostan’ or, more officially, ‘United States of Pindostan,’ and you will be told that one part of it, called Alaska , used to belong to Russia . Part of the word – ‘stan’ – stands for underdeveloped state, as in ‘ Pakistan ’, ‘ Kazakhstan ’ or ‘ Uzbekistan.’ The citizens of this country in plural form are called ‘pindoses’, in singular – ‘pindos’.

So exactly what is a “pindos”?  Personally, I found the definition to be quite surprising…

The word ‘pindos’ in Russian is highly offensive, and defines a helpless creature that is a product of a very bad educational system, one who can survive in this world only with the help of different gadgets.

The animosity that Russians have for the United States runs very deep, and it has been growing over time.

In fact, back in the 1990s, 80 percent of Russians actually had a positive attitude toward America…

Today, according to the respected Moscow ‘Levada Center,’ which measures political sentiment in Russian society, 74% of Russians have negative feelings towards the USA . It hasn’t always been like this – in the 1990s, 80% had positive attitude toward America.
Right now 76% of Russians hate Obama personally and only meager 2% like him. In 2009 only 12 % of Russians had extremely negative feelings towards Obama.

What a difference a couple of decades makes.

Today, anti-American sentiment is everywhere.  This is especially true in Moscow.  As I mentioned above, you can now find American flag doormats outside of shopping malls and business establishments…

Russian business owners are using American flags as doormats as resentment over U.S. economic sanctions puts the squeeze on traders.
Customers have been filmed wiping their feet on the fabled stars and stripes as they enter and exit stores across Moscow, as struggling retailers take a hopeless swipe at their Cold War adversaries.

Everyone in the west who have tried to figure out the name of the anti-christ over the years, saying that people like Ronald Reagan or Henry Kissinger or Richard Nixon or Bill Clinton or even now Barack Obama is the anti-christ have all been wrong. Ridiculous assumptions at the very least. Why? Because they use English Gematria, which is the assignment of numbers. (There are seven basic types of Gematria) to try to calculate the name, using a number assigned for each letter of the alphabet. Secondly, the West does not understand it’s not about them and never has been, it’s about the Middle East.

Let’s take a look at Revelation 13:18. “Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.” The new Testament was translated from Hebrew (John’s language) into Greek and then into English. Studying the manuscript evidence, in the “Codex Vaticanus” dated 350 AD those three letters (that were translated 666) are not Greek in that sentence, but were translated that way wrongly. They are actually Arabic letters. John wrote what he saw the bible says, so when it came to 666, it was not Greek text. Even in the original manuscript in Greek when you turn the three letters, they become and look exactly like the Arabic letters. What it means is Bis’m Allah or “In the Name of Allah! That is the very thing that all the Islamic warriors wear on the headbands and armbands on their right arm!

These three letters carry secondary meanings, but not a primary meaning! Remember it’s his number, his name, NOT ours. It has nothing to do with an implant or upc code or pin number nor nano power or technology at all. It’s the creed of Islam! Let’s break it down further. In verse 18 the word for wisdom is Sophia=meaning broad and full intelligence. The word count means=reckon, decide by voting. The word number (mentioned three times) means=a definite number OR an indefinite number, a multitude!

Day of the Antichrist – June 6, 2016

In the Bible, the prophet Daniel warns us that the Antichrist will be revealed to the world in the middle of the final seven years of human history.  Many would describe this as “42 months into the seven year tribulation,” when they expect the Antichrist to break his covenant with the Jews, enter a rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem, and proclaim himself to be God.  Before this date, the Antichrist is just a popular and powerful politician – his behavior is still restrained and he has not claimed to be God or shown his true nature as the Antichrist.  But one day, 42 months into the seven years, his restraint is removed and the entire world will know him for what he truly is.

That which we see unfolding in America on a daily basis indicates that it is certainly a very fearful period of time to be alive. But I ask, “Who should be afraid, and what should they fear?”

Crisis after crisis are taking place, and many of them are contrived to bring about an unlawful change. These crises are in many cases manufactured to produce fear for the purpose of bringing you to your knees and forcing you to submit to their creators’ ungodly plans. This is the method of dictatorships.

Fear can be either a diabolical fear that submits to the fear of man, only to be conquered; or it can be a filial fear, which submits to God and His Commandments, which liberates by conquering the oppressor (Romans 8:37; Matthew 16:18).

If it is not a terrorist threat against the American people, then it is the outrage surrounding the Obama administration’s release of thousands upon thousands of criminal illegal aliens upon American cities and neighborhoods.

But I ask you, my friends, who are you to fear? Man or God?

The Psalmist points the way:

“Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and justice are the habitation of his throne.

A fire goes before him, and burns up his enemies round about.

His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory. Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods. Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD.

How is it that the righteous could fear the face of man in the light of Scripture, which reveals such a Mighty God? Especially since God is on the side of the righteous in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jesus said in Luke 12:4-5, “And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”

This is the God of the Mosaic institution, who stated in Psalm 2:1-4 that He would laugh at those who sought to set themselves against Him and His Christ. He also declared He would pour out His wrath on them (vs. 5).

Remember the global financial crisis, triggered six years ago when billions of dollars of dodgy loans - doled out by banks to subprime borrowers and then resold numerous times on international debt markets - began to unravel and default?

Stock markets plunged, banks collapsed and the entire global financial system teetered on the brink of catastrophe. Well a similarly chilling economic scenario could be set off by the current collapse in oil prices.

Based on recent stress tests of subprime borrowers in the energy sector in the US produced by Deutsche Bank, should the price of US crude fall by a further 20pc to $60 per barrel, it could result in up to a 30pc default rate among B and CCC rated high-yield US borrowers in the industry. West Texas Intermediate crude is currently trading at multi-year lows of around $75 per barrel, down from $107 per barrel in June.

“A shock of that magnitude could be sufficient to trigger a broader high-yield market default cycle, if materialised,” warn Deutsche strategists Oleg Melentyev and Daniel Sorid in their report.

Five years ago at the beginning of what has become known as the US shale oil revolution, drillers started to load up on debt to fund their operations and acquire new acreage as vast areas of North America started to open up for exploration.

In 2010, energy and materials companies made up just 18pc of the US high-yield index – which tracks sub-investment grade borrowers – but today they account for 29pc of the measure after drilling firms spent the past five years borrowing heavily to underwrite the operations. The result of this debt splurge has been a spectacular rise in US oil and gas output.
Latest estimates suggest that by the end of the decade the US will have outstripped even Saudi Arabia and Russia in terms of oil production. The development of new shale resources in North America and the opening up of fields in the Arctic seas off Alaska could see the country pumping 14.2m barrels per day (bpd) of oil and petroleum liquids by 2020, up from 7.5m bpd in 2013.
This rush to pump more oil in the US has created a dangerous debt bubble in a notoriously volatile segment of corporate credit markets, which could pose a wider systemic risk in the world’s biggest economy. By encouraging ever more drilling in pursuit of lower oil prices, the US Department of Energy has unleashed a potential economic monster and pitched these heavily debt-laden shale oil drilling companies into an impossible battle for market share against some of the world’s most powerful low-cost producers in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec). 

Giant Sinkhole Still Expanding, Russian Potash Producer Uralkali Says

UralkaliThe giant sinkhole is growing by a rate of 700 cubic meters per hour, potash giant Uralkali said in a statement Wednesday.

A giant sinkhole that appeared in central Russia's Perm region after a mining accident has continued growing, the world's largest potash producer and owner of the mine, Uralkali, said.

The size of the sinkhole has increased from 30 by 40 meters in mid November to 50 by 80 meters now, the company said Wednesday in an online statement.

The average brine inflow during the same period surpassed 700 cubic meters per hour, the statement said.

Uralkali was forced to suspend operations at its Solikamsk-2 mine in November after high levels of brine inflow were detected, causing a giant sinkhole to form nearby.

In the statement, Uralkali said it was trying to pump out brine that was threatening to flood additional underground spaces, but quoted a mining research expert as saying the mine is likely to be lost.

"Based on our analysis and the world's experience in developing potassium mines, the risk of a negative scenario — the complete flooding on the mine — remains high," the head of the Ural region's Mining Institute, Alexander Baryakh, was quoted as saying.

"We are ready for this contingency, but we are doing everything possible to minimize related risks," he said, adding that "fortunately, the accident poses no danger to the residents of [the local town of] Solikamsk."

The Solikamsk-2 mine accounts for a fifth of the Uralkali's capacity.

Response activities in the three intense-transmission countries continue to intensify in line with the UNMEER aim to isolate and treat 70% of EVD cases, and safely bury 70% of EVD-related deaths by 1 December, with the ultimate goal of reaching 100% by 1 January. At a national level, there is now sufficient bed capacity in EVD treatment facilities to treat and isolate all reported EVD cases in each of the three countries, although the uneven distribution of beds and cases means there are serious shortfalls in some areas. Similarly, each country now has sufficient and widespread capacity to bury all reported EVD-related deaths; however, because not all EVD-related deaths are reported, and many reported burials are of non-EVD-related deaths, it is possible that the 70% target has not been met in some areas. Every EVD-affected district in the three intense-transmission countries has access to a laboratory for confirmation within 24 hours of sample collection. All three countries report that more than 85% of registered contacts associated with known cases of EVD are being traced, although contact tracing is still a challenge in areas of intense transmission. Increasing capacity for contact tracing in areas with low levels of transmission will be necessary to end local chains of transmission.

 Does anyone really think that any nuclear-armed nation, whether it would be the United States, China and especially Russia will ever accept defeat to a rival nation, in conventional warfare, without subsequently inflicting the maximum penalty on its opponent? There is little question in most experts minds that the loser of a “conventional” World War III will not hesitate to unleash its nuclear weapons as a last ditch means to “even the score”

America’s Complacency Is Our Number One National Security Concern

Forbes writer, James Conca, has expressed the view in a dramatic report that when it comes to matching the growing Russian military threat, that America’s most pressing concern is complacency. Conca noted that the recent reports that Russia has gained the upper hand in nuclear weapons capability against the United States, has been met with indifference from this administration.

Making matters worse, Conca observed that this current administration fired the one General who was going to shape up America’s Intercontinental Ballistic Missile command. Now he’s gone and our ICBM’s sit in less than a state of readiness.

Conca notes that even the U.S. State Department has acknowledged that not only has the the U.S. nuclear arsenal fallen behind Russia but so has basic U.S. military technology. The U.S. State Department admits that America is now the underdog should hostilities involving nuclear weapons between the two nations actually break out. Obama is out to lunch and seems oblivious to the threat. The Forbes investigation goes on to say that Russia is absolutely ready and their new long-range cruise missiles that are ready for mobile deployment by land or sea.

Hagel Speaks Out and Gets Fired

Defense Secretary, Chuck Hagel, is now gone from his position. Why? This is probably due to the fact that Defense Secretary Hagel stated that “routine neglect of our nuclear weapons programs over the years has compromised our ability to respond to an actual threat.” This is a clear indictment of the six year presidency of Obama and the fact that he’s done nothing to keep up with Putin. Shortly after this statement, Hagel was fired as Defense Secretary. Is there any doubt what team Obama is playing for?

Russia Withdraws From Nuclear Attacks

Putin announced his warlike intentions, last month, in that he plans to severely scale down nuclear security cooperation with the United States. Translation, Russia does not need, nor want, the protection it formerly achieved through limitations on nuclear weapons.

This aggressive posture, according to The New York Times, is seen as Russia’s way of saying that it requires no outside assistance in securing the country’s nuclear assets and network.

Or as observers would say, it could be Moscow’s strong message to the West and the United States in particular that it cannot be pressured about Ukrainian borders, where Russian troops are amassing by the tens of thousands.

Mutually Assured Destruction Is a Thing of the Past

Michael Snyder writing for The Right Side News exposed the fallacy that due to the outdated doctrine of  ”mutually assured destruction,” Russia is opposed even to a nuclear confrontation. In fact, Snyder demonstrated that the opposite is true. A nuclear confrontation is something that Putin may not desire, but he is not backing down. The following five developments have been identified which indicate that Russia is fully intending on winning World War III.

1. Radar-beating missile delivery system.

2. Russia has spent nearly $72 billion on arms in 2011 and is planning on spending well over a half a billion dollars to upgrade its weapons systems by 2016 including the development of the ability to cripple America with cyber attacks.

3. Russia’s nuclear forces are turning mobile and the new stealth technology extends from undetectable bombers to silent running nuclear submarines.

4. According to PRAVDA, Russia has 5,000 nuclear weapons of different tactical classes including Iskander warheads and torpedo, aerial and artillery warheads, all right next to Europe. The United States has reduced its nuclear arsenal from 31,000 (1967) to a mere 1,600. Obama has openly spoken of reducing our arsenal to 300 nuclear missiles.

5.  According to The Financial Times, satellite killers were launched into orbit May of 2014. This move by the Russians, parallels what the  Chinese have already accomplished and tested. The intent is to blind American forces on the battlefield and at sea. 

6. Obama has continued to weaken U.S. nuclear forces through the removal Nineteen nuclear launch officers. This is not a scenario were the United States can simply say “next man up”. These are highly specialized positions requiring highly specialized training that can only be realized through extensive field experience.

Obama Continues To Poke a Stick In the Eye of the Bear

Obama continues to provoke Putin with needless sanctions which do nothing to address the crisis in Ukraine. Meanwhile, it has become clear that Putin is also planning a Red Dawn scenario for the United States. And of course, this would not be possible without the direct complicity of President Obama.

In conclusion, it is one thing to intellectually understand how Obama is destabilizing both the military and its leadership. However, it is emotionally earthshaking to be able to trace Obama’s deliberate treason  toward to our national defense. From a military perspective, we are in grave danger and this will be the topic of the next part of this series.

Syrian government jailers have executed 131 inmates in a Damascus prison who had contracted the plague, it was reported on Thursday.

Conditions in the 215 Security Branch detention centre in the Syrian capital were so dire that pulmonary plague was spreading through the detainees. In September of this year, the officer in charge of the prison ordered the executions of inmates in dormitory number eight, according to an opposition group called the Syrian Association, which documents human rights violations. 

Up to 117 people were killed in the first round of mass killings, with a further 14 killed two days later, the group said.

The bodies were then reportedly wrapped in nylon bags before being transferred to a mass grave near a military housing complex nearby.

Human Rights Watch said it did not have proof of this massacre, but that other deaths in this detention facility have been well documented, including reports from former detainees reflecting mass killings.

Obama slammed for staying mum on Israel sanctions 'The fact that your administration has failed to denounce or clarify is deeply troubling'

 

A member of Congress from North Carolina has put together a letter – signed by dozens of his colleagues – asking President Obama whether he is trying to impose sanctions against America’s longtime and staunch ally Israel.

“Recent reports suggest that your administration has held classified meetings over the past several weeks to discuss the possibility of imposing sanctions against Israel for its decision to construct homes in East Jerusalem. We urge you and your administration to clarify these reports immediately,” said the letter assembled by Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C.
“I’m appalled that the administration would even consider the idea of sanctioning Israel – one of our closest allies. We need clarification from the White House on this immediately,” Meadows said.
“What message does it send to the world for the U.S. to impose sanctions against Israel while easing sanctions on Iran – a state-sponsor of terror with an abysmal human rights record?” Meadows added.

NEW YORK – Following confirmation by the National Archives that President Obama did not sign an executive order to implement the immigration policy he announced to the nation, Washington-based watchdog Judicial Watch has called for an investigation into whether the White House has engaged in a criminal conspiracy to spend taxpayer funds on unauthorized purposes.

“The fact that President Obama did not sign an executive order appears to involve a recognition by the White House that President Obama did not have the authority to make the changes in immigration law outlined in his Nov. 20 speech,” said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch.

Fitton, in an interview with WND, argued executive orders are limited to facilitating the execution of laws, not altering or establishing law.

“Barack Obama did not issue an executive order because he does not have the authority to issue an executive order in this instance,” Fitton said.

He believes White House counsel concluded Obama lacked the authority to defer prosecutions under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, DACA, program and decided to implement the policy through a memorandum issued by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. The memo was never filed with the Federal Register for a period of public comment, as federal law requires agencies to do when making rules.

Qatar funding ISIS attack against U.S.

'Ally' providing new weapons for jihadist army's counter-surge

TEL AVIV — Qatar is financing a planned ISIS counter-attack against Western allies in Iraq and Syria, according to an Egyptian government intelligence document obtained by WND.

The document claims Qatar provided ISIS with new weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles, for use in a surge against Western-allied forces in the coming weeks.
Qatar is a member of President Obama’s coalition fighting ISIS.
The  U.S.-led coalition is also planning a surge against ISIS in the coming weeks.
However, informed Middle Eastern security officials say the strategy is partly dependent on cooperation from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
The officials told WND last week that both countries have asked the U.S. for an understanding that the strikes will also target the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in exchange for the Turkish and Saudi cooperation.
The Obama administration seems unlikely to acquiesce to any requests to target Assad’s forces as part of the fight against ISIS.

TEL AVIV – Do the Obama administration’s tentacles extend to the crisis that led to the dissolution Tuesday of Israel’s parliament and the scheduling of early elections that could replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?

Representatives of the Obama administration held meetings with a senior politician here in which the U.S. officials brought up the possibility of replacing Netanyahu as prime minister, according to an informed Jerusalem diplomatic source.
Following months of internal bickering, Netanyahu fired centrist and leftist members of his coalition Tuesday and set March 17 as the date for new national elections.
The decision came after dismissed finance minister Yair Lapid and dismissed justice minister Tzipi Livni repeatedly accused Netanyahu of distancing himself from the U.S. and bringing relations with Israel’s most important ally to a crisis point.
Lapid and Livni took issue with Netanyahu’s decisions to expand Jewish communities in eastern Jerusalem, which they said helped to bring the relationship with the Obama administration to the brink.
In October, Israel’s Ynet news website reported a request by Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon to meet with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Adviser Susan Rice during his visit to Washington had been denied by the White House.
The reported move is highly unusual and was seen as a snub of Netanyahu’s government. It helped to set off a firestorm against Netanyahu in Israel, with Livni and Lapid leading the charge.
Also in October, the U.S. used uncharacteristically harsh language to oppose a plan for Israel to build 2,610 new homes on empty lots in Givat Hamatos, a Jerusalem neighborhood in the eastern section of the city where Palestinians want to build a future state.
